# Set Up Email API

Send your form emails through an email service like SendGrid or Mailgun, so they come from your own verified address instead of the app's default one.

## 🔄 How It Works

```
Connect a provider (Settings)
→  Apply it to a form (Mail tab)
→  Emails send through your provider
```

Once applied, these emails all go through your provider:

* Admin emails
* Customer notification emails

It only affects emails from **Powerful Contact Form Builder**, not Shopify's own notification emails.

## 🔧 Step 1: Connect Your API in Settings

1. Open the app > **Settings** > **Custom Mail & SMTP**
2. Under **Mail SMTP & API**, open **Provider** and choose your service
3. Enter the details it asks for (see the table above)
4. *(Optional)* Set custom sender information
5. Click **Save**
6. Scroll to **Send a test email**, enter your address, click **Send**

> **⚠️ Note:** Save before testing. The test uses your saved settings.

## ✅ Step 2: Apply It to the Form

Connecting a provider doesn't switch your forms automatically. Apply it to each form that should use it.

1. **G**o to **Forms** > open the form
2. Click the **Mail** icon on the left > **Admin**
3. Scroll down to **Use SMTP & API** > select **Mail provider**
4. Click **Save**

> **📌 Note:** **Mail provider** uses the provider you saved in **Settings** in Step 1. Repeat these steps for every form that should send through it.

Then submit the form once and check the sender address.

## ❓ FAQs

<details>

<summary>Which emails go through my email API?</summary>

Admin emails, customer notification emails, and conditional emails, for every form you've applied it to.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Do I need to apply it to every form?</summary>

Yes. Connecting a provider in Settings doesn't switch forms automatically. Set **Use SMTP & API** to **Mail provider** on each form. Forms left on the default keep sending from the app's address.

</details>

<details>

<summary>My provider isn't in the list. Can I still connect it?</summary>

API is only available for the listed providers. If yours supports SMTP, use Set up SMTP instead.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Should I use SMTP or an email API?</summary>

Use SMTP if you already have a mailbox and send a small volume. Use an email API for high volume or delivery reports. Mailboxes like Gmail and Outlook cap how much they can send per day.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I change the "From name" or "From email"?</summary>

Yes, under custom sender information. The **From email** must be verified with your provider, or it can be rejected or land in spam.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can one form use a different sender?</summary>

Yes. On that form, under **Use SMTP & API**, choose **Use custom API** and enter the details. Your store-wide settings stay unchanged.

</details>

<details>

<summary>My test email succeeded, but I didn't get it.</summary>

A success message only means your provider accepted the email. Check your Spam or Junk folder, and confirm your sender address or domain is verified with the provider.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What if I revoke or replace my API key?</summary>

Emails will stop sending. Paste the new key in **Settings** > **Custom Mail & SMTP** and click **Save**.

> **Still need help?** Contact support at <support@powerfulform.com> and include the exact error message shown.
